We can’t believe it but, yes, [KONTROL] is celebrating its 4th anniversary this Saturday (June 6, 2009)! And to celebrate this milestone, [KONTROL] and The Endup is bringing you from Jena, Germany, Wighnomy Brothers (Freude am Tanzen | Musik Krause).
Robag Wruhme and Monkey Maffia, known collectively as The Wighnomy Brothers, are best friends, label owners, production partners, and one of planet Earth’s most entertaining and sought-after DJ teams. Known for their remix-heavy, vodka-soaked extended sets, the delightful duo from Jena, Germany have traveled the globe far and wide rocking parties and festivals, but thanks to their distaste for a certain ex-President of ours, they have refused to play the US. Until now. We simply adore these guys and without question, they have held a slot near the top of our “most wanted” list since we first sought out on this colorful voyage. Thus, it is with great pride and pleasure that [KONTROL] celebrates four years of bringing forward-thinking techno and house to San Francisco with a four hour set by the inimitable, incomparable, and absolutely unmissable Wighnomy Brothers in their exclusive West Coast debut.
This Saturday (May 2, 2009), we will host two amazing DJs for [KONTROL] - Stewart Walker and Dario Zenker.
Stewart Walker first gained international prominence in the late ’90s with a series of classic releases on Force Inc., Tresor, Mille Plateau and M-nus which proved to be highly influential in the development of minimal techno. A decade later, he’s still at the top of his craft, touring the globe with his infectious, emotive live techno stylings and releasing quality music on his own Persona imprint. Stewart’s said he’s got a special set in store for [KONTROL], and we couldn’t be more excited or honored to host this iconic figure in his Endup debut!
Raised on Michael Jackson and underground hip-hop, Dario Zenker picked up DJing at age 15, and within a few years landed a residency at Munich’s famed Harry Klein club that he still holds today. in addition to his ace productions on several top labels, he is known for his dynamic sets of freaky, organic, house-driven minimal techno that always keep the crowd guessing and the dance floor bouncing.

ALEX UNDER (aka Friendly People)The last time Alex Under played for us, his intense aural onslaught had the Endup crowd going absolutely mental, and prompted resident Alland Byallo to name it in an online interview as the best live PA he’s ever seen. We are therefore supremely excited to welcome this talented young producer and label owner back for another sweat-soaked dancefloor pummeling before he heads to Detroit for a headlining set at this year’s DEMF.
AGARIC (aka Patrik Skoog)Patrik Skoog began producing in the 90’s, originally focusing on a harder techno sound which brought him global notoriety. These days he goes by Agaric, an alias with which he delves into the slower, deeper realms of techno and house. With over a decade of experience and over 100 vinyl releases to his name, his extended live performance is sure to excite chin-strokers and rug-cutters alike.
“Well…that’s enough. Fuck it.” To anyone paying attention, those words will instantly bring to mind one of the most unique and memorable techno tracks of last year. The man behind it is Dublin’s Donnacha Costello, who has been producing for over a decade but really came into the international spotlight in 2004 with the release of his acclaimed “Colorseries”, a monthly sequence of 10 color-coded EP’s created using entirely analog gear and released on his own Minimise label. Influenced by minimal pioneers like Mike Ink, Plastikman, and Basic Channel, Donnacha creates warm, dubby techno that intoxicates the mind as it compels the body to move. After witnessing his stirring live PA at the 2006 DEMF, we knew we needed to bring him out to SF, but in the nearly two years since, he’s been nowhere near these parts. Tired of waiting, this month we’ve finally decided to say “fuck it” ourselves and fly him over for an exclusive North American appearance you definitely won’t want to miss.
